HP OfficeJet 6310 all-in-one printer hidden functions

Recently one of the HP 6310 printer had a problem and I had to call up HP Support to get it solved.

In doing this I got to learn some new functions that can be used in this printer.

1. Reset the printer settings
Unplug the printer from power. And then wait for about 1 min for the power to be totally drained out of the printer. And then press and hold onto # and 3 buttons on the number pad on the printer and then plug in the power cable while keep on pressing the # and 3 buttons. Now wait till a message comes up on the printer display. Normally this will come up with Language selection.

2. Service Menu
While the printer is fully powered on and it is in standby mode. press * and # button together. This will show a message on the display of the printer similar to this "********########" . once you get this message key in the following number in sequence using the number pad 329. Once you done that a message will come on the display saying "Service" and a number. Now using the arrow buttons you can browse trough all the available menu options.

Hope this will help people who want to do troubleshooting on there printer.

Function Keys not working on Logitech Cordless 1500 Rechargeable Desktop Keyboard

I have few Vista computers that use Logitech Cordless 1500 Rechargeable Desktop Keyboard & Mouse pack. Some of them is having a problem of the Keyboard function keys not working. After doing lot of testing and research I found that this is caused by Registry problem.

Function keys light on the receiver is on up to the point where you have to log on to the OS. And once windows load up everything the light get turn off.

This is cause by the Logitech SetPoint program thinking that there is a Function key on/off button is physically in the Keyboard ( But there is no button for this keyboard).

To make this work properly do the following. ( O/S : Vista )

1. Open up regedit by going to Search in the Start Menu and typing regedit on it.
2. Now browse to the following location in regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER> SOFTWARE> LOGITECH> KHAL
3. Check to see if the value of FMode
4. If it is 0. Double click onit and Change the value to 1
5. Now Restart your computer.

Now the problem of Function keys will be fixed

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

I recently implemented Microsoft office 2007 at my work place. And once I install on client computers and then get them log on from there user name and try to create there account on Outlook it crashes. After many attempts I found the following solution for it.

The problem : After inputing user email details and then Outlook show to input User name for for the profile. But it get hidden in few seconds with out giving the time to input the name. And when I try to close Outlook it want close. I actually had to end the process of outlook to close it.

Cause: I think this cause by other programs like security programs who are trying to install spam add ins.

Solution:
1. The best way to avoid this is to actually close outlook (You might have to end process using task manager ( Keyboard shortcut : CTRL + SHIFT + ESC))

2. Now open another office program like word or excel. Once you open this it will ask you to enter the user name and also other privacy details.

3. Once you have done that you can open outlook and then it will start to function normally.
